Task Number 1: A class cooperative activity!

With your class, listen to the teacher read a variety of stories about Franklin.

  1.   Together identify the beginning, middle and ending of each story. Record the information on a class chart and add to it as you read more stories.
  2.   Together look for sign posts (special words) the author used to indicate that they were at the beginning, middle  or ending of the story. Make a class list of these words and add to the list as you read the stories.
  3.  Together identify the problem in each story, the plan to solve it, any changes made to the plan and the final solution to solve the problem. Also determine when these things happened in the story (beginning, middle or end). Record this information on a class chart and add to it as you read more stories.
 
Process:

  • Ask the teacher to read Franklin stories to the class. 
  • When each story is finished identify the beginning, middle and ending of each story.
  • Ask the teacher to record this information on large chart paper in a list called "The Parts of a Story".  Ask the teacher to post the list for the whole class to see. 
  • When each story is finished look for sign posts (special words) the author used to indicate that they were at the beginning, middle  or ending of the story. 
  • Ask the teacher to make a class list of these words and call it "The Authors Signposts".
  • When each story is finished identify the problem in each story, the plan to solve it, any changes made to the plan and the final solution to solve the problem. Also determine when these things happened in the story (beginning, middle or end).
  • Ask the teacher to record this information on large chart paper in a list called "Story Problems"
