-
The children will read stories about
Franklin with the teacher and identify the beginning, middle and ending
of each story. This will be recorded on a class chart called "The
Parts of a Story" which will be posted in the class.
-
The class will look for sign posts
(special words) the author used to indicate that they were at the beginning,
middle or ending of the story. These words will be recorded on a
list called "The Authors Signposts".
-
The class will identify the problem
in each story, the plan to solve it, any changes made to the plan and the
final solution to solve the problem. They will determine when these things
happened in the story (beginning, middle or end). This will be recorded
on a list called "Story Problems".
-
The children will visit some Internet
Web Sites with the class and with a partner and make a list of Franklin's
friends and one thing they learned about each friend. They will share this
with the class.
-
The teacher will discuss how the
class can find out information about the author by using the Internet.
The class will visit Web Sites to learn about the author and the illustrator.
They will record two things they learned about the author and about the
illustrator of the Franklin books. They will share what they learned with
the class.
-
The teacher will show the class
the Web Sites and go through the activities with the children as a whole
group. The children will visit the Web Sites with a friend and complete
the activities.
-
The children will learn how to make
a story plan. They will then use their story plan to write their own Franklin
story. They will learn about the editing and publishing processes
involved in storywriting.
