Compression - To press closely together or force an object into a smaller space.

Tension - A stretching force that pulls on a structure.

Shear - A force that causes parts of a material to slide past one another in opposite directions.

Buckling - To bend under compression.

Snapping - What happens when the force of tension overcomes the objects ability to handle tension.

Dissipate - To spread out a force evenly among a greater area.

Transfering- To move force from an area of weakness to an area of strength
 
Resonance- is a vibrating force which, unchecked, can be fatal to a bridge.
 
Friction- is the force that opposes the relative motion or tendency of such motion of two surfaces in contact
 
Torsion- is a rotational or twisting force
 
Bouyancy- is an upward force on an object immersed in a fluid
 
Gravity- is the tendency of objects with mass to accelerate toward each other
